Mid 19th Century Victorian Anglo-Indian Colonial Teak & Camphor wood lined Campaign Trunk circa 1850, (Number 25) The rectangular hinge lidded top with brass recessed handle, hinged to reveal an interior with candle box,
featuring original flush mounted brass handle and original shaped brass escutcheons, brass corner brackets, brass carry handles and further brass strap-work, two lever locks locks with two non working keys with tassels.

Chests that were constructed in the colonies, such as this one, were usually constructed of Camphor, Mahogany and Teak. The trunk benefits from a rich golden Teak colour, with a wonderful patterned grain configuration to the front and sides, having been French polished by our expert furniture restorer. This piece of furniture would look great at the end of a bed or used as a coffee table, lots of character that would grace any room.

Mahogany, Camphor and Teak were used extensively for military chests because they had the advantage of only minimally expanding and contracting when exposed to extremes in temperature and humidity. Camphor is particularly resistant to woodworm, termites and other tropical infestations.

Condition Report:
This trunk is offered in original condition having been French polished by our expert furniture restorer. There are age related marks to the leading edges, top, sides and corners but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The trunk features the original brass inset handle and brass carry handles to the sides, three of the bottom brass corner protectors are missing, the hinged lid opens and close smoothly and sits flush to the trunk, original working locks (there are no working keys, the keys shown are purely decorative). The chest has a wonderful rich flamed patina, this item is extremely well made, solid in joint and ready to use, there are no odours or smells, there is no evidence of past or present woodworm, comes with two non working keys with tassels.
