Stunning 18th century Swedish ‘Gustavian’ original white painted bench settle dating to circa 1790,  originating from the North of Sweden, this beautiful pine settle features a high back with carved  ‘egg and dart’ detail with four hand carved finials to the corners, the seat with recently upholstered hessian covered mattress, fluted column detail to the sides and  further ‘egg and dart’ to the front lip of the seating area,  raised  on eight tapered fluted legs, original dry scraped white paint, this is certainly a ‘stand out piece’ and one of those special items of furniture that is a forever keeper, perfect for hallway, living room, bedroom or boot room, a simply stunning piece of furniture that will enhance any space, reserve now.

Gustavian furniture refers to a style of furniture and interior decor which started in Sweden around 1770 by King Gustav III. Gustav visited the Palace of Versailles and admired the decor and French neoclacissism.

King Gustav was a patron of arts and he held a keen interest in all things related to design and decoration. The French influence was largely due to the Versailles visits, which made a significant impression on the Gustav, the impressive artwork inspired the King to actually create a Paris of the North in the late 18th century.
