Pair of Charlottenborg Model AJ237 Bamboo Armchairs by Arne Jacobsen circa 2000
Pair of Charlottenborg Kurvestol model AJ237 armchairs by Arne Jacobsen circa 2000, the chairs originally designed 1936 and shown for the first time at Charlottenborg's spring exhibition in 1937. Originally called the Chair A. J 237 and was part of a series of original wicker chairs. The curving shapes became very characteristic of Arne Jacobsen's many famous chair designs, which can be traced in some of his early pieces of furniture. The design has unconventional shape, where the elegant curved back of solid rattan goes in one with the armrests, both of which are beautifully integrated into the bottom of the chair. In addition to the rattan frame, the chair is fitted with a firm padded seat that is upholstered in a woven latticed pattern with tan coloured leather strands.
It is a known fact, that the Charlottenborg chair was one of Arne Jacobsen’s favourite lounge chairs in his famous vacation home Knarken near Sejroebugten
Condition: The chairs are all offered in excellent condition, some minor sections of the lattice pattern to the seats is loose, barely noticeable and can be stuck down to hide.
