Fabulous mid century French Solitaire Rattan Chair by Janine Abraham and  Dirk Jan Rol France circa 1950s, the beautiful sunburst design  with its deep bucket seat with  anopen loop back, raised on black iron base reserve, an extremely stylish and iconic design that seems to get better with age, a true classic reserve now.
About: Janine Abraham & Dirk Jan Rol

French-born designer Janine Abraham studied at the École Camondo in Paris, graduating in 1952. She met Dutch-born designer Dirk Jan Rol at the studio of Jacques Dumond in 1955. The following year, in 1956, the pair showed their first collaborative work at the Salon des Artistes Decorateurs.

Abraham and Rol married each other andlaunched their own agency in 1957, creating modernist furniture characterized by clean, elegant lines—notably the rattan and enameled metal Lemon and Corolle chairs (both 1957), the sleek Sapelli wood and lacquered metal Plywood Chair (1960), and the steel and black vinyl Sofa Bed (1962). While little else is known about the duo, Rol went on to focus on architecture, creating sculptural structures that combined and celebrated nature and interiors.

It has been said of Janine Abraham and Dirk Jan Rol that their design collaboration approached the ideal of the 'decorateur a deux tetes'. While the strength of Dutch-born Dirk Jan Rol was structural and architectural, Janine Abraham contributed imagination, invention and fantasy.

Their designs incorporate a strong concept of line, space and colour with a special characteristic elegance. They are very much a part of the new generation of modernist designers whose work took into consideration the need for mass production of furniture.

Dirk Jan Rol went on to focus more intensively on architecture, and created unique sculptural structures which integrate interior space and nature, using light and materials in an inventive way to celebrate both.
