Gillows of Lancaster Campaign Chest of Drawers Secretaire Antique Circa 1850
A magnificent and rare mid 19th century 'Gillows of Lancaster' two part Mahogany secretaire campaign chest of drawers circa 1850, the upper section of the chest having a pull out secretaire drawer enclosing a fully fitted interior with various pigeon holes and two long and one short drawer with a tooled tan leather and gilt edged writing surface a single drawer, the lower chest with a further two drawers all with campaign brass pull handles, standing on four turned legs, comes with one original working key and tassels, the chest splits into two with brass carry handles to sides, this chest dates from the Victorian, the chest is stamped 'GILLOWS'. Condition report: The chest is offered in very good antique condition, all drawers open and close smoothly with no odours, the secretaire opens and falls with ease, there is a Gillows stamp to the drawer front, the fitted interior is in exceptional condition, the top drawer front has a deep scratch as shown in the images but barely noticeable, the left side of the chest has a chip to the rear, the chest shows no evidence of past or present woodworm, the chest comes with one original working key and one secondary non working key for display purposes, the patina of the chest is wonderful with a deep rich gold colour, the chest could easily be re polished if one wanted but we like this one as it is.
