Rare Gio Ponti Walnut & Glass Coffee Table 1950
Rare and important Gio Ponti Lattice Walnut & Glass Coffee Table Milan, Italy Circa 1950, the rectangular glass top with lattice framework over outward swept tapered legs, manufactured by Giordano Chiesa, Milan, Italy. Originally designed for the headquarters of the Italian Broadcasting Corporation the EIAR (later renamed Radio Audizioni Italiane RAI) over the course of time the building changed hands and most of the furniture was destroyed when the building was redesigned.
This table was salvaged mid 1960s by Lisa Ponti (Gio Ponti's daughter) and taken back to her personal home in Milan where it remained for the next forty years, the table was then passed down to her daughter Anna Mari and from her to Caterina Licitra Ponti, Gio Ponti’s great granddaughter, the table has never been to market or offered for sale anywhere, we are extremely honoured and proud to be the current custodians of this extremely important table with such history and Provence.
In November 2020 an almost identical Gio Ponti table Lot 4 sold in auction at Phillip’s London for £94,500 excluding 25% fees.
