Stunning French 19th century Louis XVI style gilt metal mounted Mahogany ‘Semainier' chest of drawers France circa 1860, this quality Napoleon III period Semainier chest with its three quarter pierced brass galleried top over a flight of seven brass-inlaid dovetailed drawers each with brass escutcheons and drop bail handles flanked by fluted pilasters, raised and standing tall on thin and elegant turned and tapered fluted legs with brass shoulder collars ending in brass caps to the toupie feet, these sleek and ‘ever so’ chic chests were historically used for a ladies lingerie and are the perfect functional accent to a classic dressing space, the word ‘Semaine’ meaning a ‘week’ in French, these beautiful chests are named for having one drawer per day of the week to hold a week's supply of lingerie and blouses, reserve now.
