Chests that were constructed in the colonies, such as this one, were usually constructed of Camphor, Mahogany and Teak. The chest benefits from a rich golden camphor colour, with a wonderful grain configuration to the front and sides, having been French polished by our expert furniture restorer. This piece of furniture would look great at the end of a bed, as a side/bedside table or used as a coffee table, lots of character that would grace any room. Mahogany, camphor and teak were used extensively for military chests because they had the advantage of only minimally expanding and contracting when exposed to extremes in temperature and humidity. Camphor is particularly resistant to woodworm, termites and other tropical infestations.

There are age related marks and repairs to the leading edges, top, sides and corners but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The chest features the original brass inset handles.
