19th Century French Louis XV Cabinet Commode circa France 1890
A magnificent and decadent original lavishly carved and painted late 19th century French Louis XV style cabinet commode circa France 1890, the arched and scalloped moulded cornice embellished with foliage and flowers in carved relief, offering beautifully-articulated applied carvings in high relief, the large central cabinet door with internal glass adjustable shelves flanked by two cupboards each with adjustable shelving, the interiors to the upper section painted a deep pillar box red, above the commode chest with four central drawers flanked by two cupboards, featuring carved, panelled doors, the whole raised on cabriole legs, painted all over in a original pistachio and cream distressed paintwork, comes with two original working keys with tassels, a true statement piece that will certainly be the centre point of any room, simply breathtaking.

This period is regarded by many as the Golden Age of French furniture, a period of grand creativity, influenced by royal mistresses like Madame de Pompadour and Madame du Barry. Condition report: Offered in wonderful distressed original condition with age related wear, knocks and marks, later added glass shelves to the interior, at some point lights have been added to the internal upper cabinets the wires still present but not tested or working, comes with two original working keys with tassels, this item separates in to two sections making moving easier, the doors and drawers all open and close with ease, no evidence of past or present woodworm, wonderful aged patina.
