Brazilian Mid Century Modern Deck Chairs crafted from iron and leather, produced by Studio d'Arte Palma (Lina Bo Bardi & Giancarlo Palanti) in São Paulo, circa 1958.

Provenance: These chairs boast a rich lineage, having been acquired from Maria Trindade de Costa, who attested to their origins from her parents' residence in Vila Mariana, São Paulo. While some household items were sold after her parents' passing, these chairs were cherished and eventually inherited by Maria Trindade de Costa.

Condition: Showing signs of wear consistent with their age, these chairs have undergone recent leather replacement and light restoration of the metal frames, ensuring they retain their historical significance and structural integrity.

Biography: Lina Bo Bardi, born in 1924, emerged as one of the foremost architects of 20th-century Brazilian architecture. Initially named Lina Achillina Bo and hailing from Italy, she pursued architecture at the University of Rome before relocating to Milan post-graduation. In Milan, Bo Bardi collaborated with Gio Ponti and later assumed the role of editor at the magazine Quiaderni di Domus. A member of the Italian Communist Party, she crossed paths with the critic and art historian Pietro Maria Bardi, with whom she permanently settled in Brazil. Together, they co-founded the influential art magazine Habitat, which echoed Bardi's vision of the ideal interior as a "habitat" optimised for human potential.
