Magnificent Mid century José Zanine Caldas Model 'Linha Z’ Armchair by Móveis Artísticos Z Brazil Circa 1950, made from Peroba wood and newly upholstered in Boucle, the armchair with its signature wide armrests featuring the designer's characteristic angular lines, raised on four sensual tapered legs, the chair was produced by Móveis Artísticos Z, the company which was founded in 1948, created by the architect José Zanine Caldas in partnership with Sebastião Pontes and Paulo Mello, the company was a great success at the time, Headquartered in São José dos Campos (SP), it maintained its production for almost two decades, a truly worthy addition to any serious chair collection, reserve now.

Born in Bahia, José Zanine Caldas (1918- 2001) started his career as an architect and scale modeler for Oscar Niemeyer and Lucio Costa, among others. In 1949, His discovery of compensated wood at University of Sao Paulo inspired him to create Móveis Z Artisticos, a factory with an objective to produce large scale, well-designed, affordable furniture based on the rational use of plywood sheets, in order to avoid material waste and minimise the need of skilled labor. It is a comfortable chair and has been recently reupholstered in green mohair velvet, and its frame is in original condition, providing with an opportunity for the new owner to enjoy it as is or restore to preferred specification.
